If you are a manufacturer, distributor or retailer, or your business relates in any way to selling or serving alcoholic beverages, you cannot operate in the State of Texas until you get a TABC license or permit from the Texas Beverage Commission.

TABC licenseThe Texas Liquor Control Board became The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in 1935. This state agency controls every aspect of the alcoholic beverage industry and it regulates sales, taxes, imports, manufacture, transport, and advertising. The commission collects more than $200 million annually from fees and taxes. This money is then redistributed to state government services. For instance, the money will go to human services, research, local governments, and public schools.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission offers either liquor permits or beer licenses.

Examples of liquor permits include: gent’s permit, airline beverage permit, beverage cartage permit, bonded warehouse permit, and brewer’s permit.

Examples of beer licenses include: agent’s beer license, branch distributor’s license, brewpub license, and general distributor’s license.
